Number bonds are the most important set of number facts for children to learn early in their mathematics education. A number bond is simply a pair of numbers that add up to another number. For example, the number bonds for 8 are:
0 + 8, 1 + 7, 2 + 6, 3 + 5, 4 + 4
Knowing number bonds will help children understand addition and subtraction with ease. They begin to see patterns in number and learn mathematical principles. They are the foundation blocks to enable a child to make progress with mathematics. they give students an informed skill set for gaining mathematical fluency and navigating increasingly difficult concepts.
We use Jack Hartmann videos a lot with the children during our maths lessons. Every Friday we listen to his Number Pairs to 10 song to help children learn their number bonds to 10. All his videos are accessible via YouTube. Here is the link to the Number Pairs song we use!
